Strategic time Management in Academia

SMART had the pleasure to organize a very well received skills course on the topic of strategic time management in academia on Monday, February 23rd. Our doctoral researchers appreciated Dr. Matthias Mayer’s engaging and interactive approach which made acquiring critical notions for the success of their long-term academic projects feel effortless.

The workshop debuted in a warm and welcoming atmosphere at 9:00 and included a comprehensive set of topics, exercises and demonstrations:

:twelve_o_clock: powerful time-planning methods, such as creating a master plan, weekly, and daily planning and leaning how to better set priorities (for example through the Eisenhower Matrix and the Pareto Principle)

:three_o_clock: illustrative principles and ideas cultivating balance between research, job responsibilities, and personal life (including a convincing demonstration of the importance of accepting our limits: water that will not fit our ‘cup’ has to, literally, go out the window!)

:six_o_clock: techniques to improve focus and clarity, which enabled participants to better manage their inner states and concentrate on their tasks,

all while benefitting from peer exchange and mutual support. As the workshop came to an end, participants expressed surprise and admiration for the trainer and felt enriched by the experience and the seamless blend of content, methods, activities and ambience.
