Celebrating excellence: Nora Scherer wins the 2025 Johann Peter Süßmilch Medal

We are proud to announce that our postdoctoral researcher, Nora Scherer, has won the 2025 Johann Peter Süßmilch Medal!

This prize, established in 1986 by the GMDS to promote young scientists, recognizes outstanding scientific achievement in the fields of medical informatics, biometry, and epidemiology.

The award was granted after her work on “Coupling metabolomics and exome sequencing reveals graded effects of rare damaging heterozygous variants on gene function and human traits”. This research sheds light on new gene-metabolite associations, particularly on heterozygous gene variants whose functional effect is usually harder to characterize. The portrayed methods may help reveal previously unknown genes impacting human traits and diseases as well.

We congratulate Nora Scherer on this achievement and wish her the best on her future research!
