Exploring Unified Approaches to SmallData: Harald Binder at freiburg.ai

Our SmallData Speaker, Harald Binder, held a presentation on May 22, 2025 for the freiburg.ai Meetup Group on the subject of “Unified Approaches to SmallData. Freiburg.ai aims to connect machine learning enthusiasts from academia and industry, providing opportunities for technical discussions, networking and tech talks.

A quick poll in the beginning indicated that half of the participants believed that biomedicine predominantly faces big data challenges, while the other half identified small data settings as the most prominent challenge in biomedical research. Harald then went on to present the concepts of our Collaborative Research Center, and how our results help to shape a comprehensive small data framework. This provided the basis for a lively discussion, where participants from different disciplines, in academia and industry alike, contributed diverse perspectives. This offered a glimpse of what an encompassing small data movement could look like, with broad relevance for many different fields.

We’re very thankful to freiburg.ai for this invitation and to all attendants that took part at this event!
