The Autumn School “Facing the Gender Data Gap” (October 6–10, 2025), a joint initiative of the Centre of Anthropology and Gender Studies, the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Freiburg, the Gender Equality Office of the Faculty of Medicine, and the CRC 1597 Small Data, has been awarded the Bertha Ottenstein Prize 2026!
Presented annually by the University of Freiburg, the Bertha Ottenstein Prize recognizes innovative projects and structural initiatives that advance gender equality, as well as outstanding achievements in gender and diversity research. The prize is endowed with €5,000.
The Autumn School was not merely a one-off event, but a structured university program designed to highlight and address gender-related inequalities in research and teaching. It was funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space (BMFTR) as part of the “Gender Data Gap” call for proposals. The results were compiled, discussed, and documented on film to ensure their long-term usability in the form of a learning module, as well as additional teaching and outreach materials.
