SMART Course: Argumentative Writing in Academic Research

Location: Internal Event Only

Writing strong argumentative texts requires both clear reasoning and accessible language. While academic writing skills or a background in logic can improve precision, arguments are ultimately expressed in natural language. This workshop introduces key concepts of logic and argumentation, with a focus on precision, coherence, and readability. Participants apply these approaches to their own writing and receive feedback for use in academic work.

SMART Course: Master Communication with Confidence

Location: Internal Event Only

Confidence while communicating ideas or results is a must in academic settings, be it a thesis defence, a conference presentation, or an internal meeting discussing research directions. This one-day workshop supports doctoral researchers in communicating their work clearly and confidently in real academic contexts. The format is practical and feedback-driven, with applied exercises based on real research communication scenarios. The emphasis is on clarity, confidence, and usable communication techniques rather than only slide-based presentation performance. These skills are trainable: with structured practice, guided feedback, and repeated real-world simulations, participants can measurably improve spontaneous communication, regardless of their starting point.

SMART Course: From Idea to Funding, Writing Competitive Research Grants

Location: Internal Event Only

Securing third-party funding is a key step in building a successful academic career, but writing a competitive proposal requires more than strong science and good academic writing skills. This one-and-a-half-day practical workshop his course focuses on the strategic aspects of grant writing, helping researchers align their research ideas with the goals, priorities, and evaluation criteria of funding organisations. It complements general writing courses by addressing how proposals are assessed and how reviewers read and compare applications under time and evaluation constraints.
